Proper Preschool Nutritional Eating Habits

Teaching your preschool students about nutrition and healthy eating habits is one of the most import and aspects of their preschool education. As we all know our country has a major problem with healthy eating and obesity and this problem does not seem to be going away anytime soon. Most preschool students are at a time of their lives when they are very curious to learn about what types that they eat. Naturally, preschool kids gravitate towards food that will taste very good to end this is why most kids between the ages of three and five like to eat candy and junk food. You can also show them sweet alternatives to junk food that tastes just as good yet are very nutritious for them such as sweet tasting fruits like apples, oranges, pears and pineapples. These fruits for example can satisfy their sweet tooth while giving them something nutritious to eat but your first goal is to teach them why certain foods are healthy for them and certain foods are not healthy for them.

Preschool teachers have many different methods that they use at their disposal to teach kids about proper eating habits and nutrition but one of the best ways to accomplish this and make it fun for them is a method called activity based learning education. Activity-based learning activities can include things like art projects that teach them to draw different types of healthy foods that are good for them so as to give them a fun hands-on drawing or painting activity that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Another good activity-based learning technique are songs that rhyme and include the names of each nutritional foods that they are supposed to eat in their diets. I know this works personally because I was taught to study in elementary school with rhythm -based memorization that brought my reading ability to do college-level at the age of 11, so take it from me, rhyme based songs do work wonderfully.

Another good technique to teach kids about healthy nutritional eating habits is role-playing and one good role-playing technique is to have your students represent a good food and a bad food. For example you can have one kid play the role of an Apple and since the Apple is a healthy nutritious fruit it would be the hero of the story. The other student would act as a snicker bar and a snicker bar would be the bad guy. These are very fun role-playing stories that would make the preschool kids laugh and leave a lasting impression on them for many years after this role-playing story is done.

Crossword puzzles are also a great way to teach your kids about nutrition. They will have to work hard to spell out the names of the nutritional foods that they are supposed to eat and this will also work as a cognitive exercise that will mentally trained them to look for nutritional foods. Last but not least our computer lessons. Everyone knows that the desktop computer is an integral part of any kids life so you might as well give him or her computer lessons that will teach them about proper and healthy eating habits.
